New Guinness Advert 2013 - Clock

'Clock' is the new Guinness advert released in January 2013. 'Clock' celebrates the attitude shared by Guinness and its drinkers -- that you get more out of life by putting more in. It is set in Bohemia in the 1890s and tells the story of a town's clock that doesn't settle for the ordinary; the clock starts to control time to enhance the townspeople's days; accelerating time to make a task go faster, reversing time to avoid an unfortunate event and pausing time to allow a precious moment to last longer.

Cross Section of the House from Pixar's Up

Aussie artist Alex Gabbott has been creating pop-culture-inspired cross-section illustrations for a while now. After doing cross sections of the house from Bob’s Burgers, and the sentry turret from the Portal games, Gabbott is back with his latest piece – the house from Pixar’s animated masterpiece (and tear-jerker), Up.

Gabbott says that the incredibly-detailed work was a labor of love, and took over 100 hours to do.

Behind the Magic: The Visual Effects of The Avengers

A plastic channel supports the row of 4 ball bearings, and a pair of neodymium magnets at the end of the row hold all the ball bearings together magnetically.

Very slowly, you roll the loose ball bearing towards the magnets. As it approaches the magnets, it and the magnets are pulled together sharply, since these are very strong magnets. And as a result, rather like that Newton's Cradle executive toy we used to see a few years ago, the ball bearing at the other end shoots off at a surprisingly high velocity.

Futuristic highways in the Netherlands glow in the dark

A futuristic highway that can save energy and improve road safety is set to be installed in the Netherlands by mid-2013. Two companies, Studio Roosegaarde and Heijmans Infrastructure, came up with the highway, which includes: glow-in-the-dark road markings painted with photo-luminescent paint which are charged during the day and light up during the night; temperature-responsive paint which indicates slippery roads when temperatures fall below zero; and interactive lights along the highway that light up as cars approach.
